4nm MediaTek Dimensity 9000 with Tri-Cluster and 10-core GPU, which should take on Snapdragon 898
Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek has unveiled its new flagship processor. The company has announced the release of Dimensity 9000 SoC, which will take over the upcoming Snapdragon 898, also known as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. MediaTek claims that the new SoC includes a lot of new things in the world. First, it is the world’s first smartphone processor based on the 4nm process technology. The chip supports the Bluetooth 5.3 standard. In addition, it is the first in the world to offer a maximum download speed of 7Gbps on a sub-6GHz 5G network with 3CC (300MHz) carrier aggregation. The 5G modem complies with the 3GPP Release-16 standard but does not support mmWave. Let’s take a look at the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 features announced at MediaTek Summit 2021.
MediaTek Dimension 9000
The MediaTek Dimensity 9000, unveiled at the company’s annual event, is based on the new ARM v9 architecture with a 1+3+4 cluster. It is the world’s first 4nm chip. The processor has an X2 main core clocked at 3.05GHz and three performance Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.85GHz. The four efficiency cores are clocked at 1.8GHz. The 10-core Mali-710 GPU is responsible for graphics performance. The SoC also includes a fifth-generation APU with six AI processing cores, which is claimed to provide 4 times better performance and efficiency compared to the previous generation chip. In addition to this, the chip supports 7500Mbps LPDDR5x RAM.
Smartphones with MediaTek’s flagship chip can support screens with refresh rates up to 180Hz and Full HD+ resolution. It also supports images captured with a 320MP sensor and can record 4K HDR video from up to three camera sensors at the same time. The ISP also supports 8K30fps and 4K120fps video recording.
Connectivity upgrades include Bluetooth 5.3, WiFi 6E 2×2, etc. MediaTek has said that devices based on the new Dimensity flagship will be released in the first quarter of 2022. We can expect Xiaomi, Redmi and Realme to be among the first to introduce a new smartphone with the Dimensity 9000 SoC.
