8 Fixes for Touch Bar Scrolling Not Working in Windows 11/10
While all computers are controlled by a hand held mouse used for pointing on the desktop, laptops have a touchpad (or sometimes called a trackpad) specifically for pointing and scrolling on the PC screen.

How to Fix Touchpad Not Scrolling: Windows 11/10

Before you start working with the methods, make sure that scrolling is enabled in the driver settings. To do this, follow the steps given below:
- Click on the windows button. (Or press the Windows key on your keyboard)
- Find mouse settings by typing mouse in the search bar.
- Click on mouse settings.
- Now click on the Device Settings option.
- Click settings.
- Find and click on scroll in the sidebar.
- Check the boxes for vertical and horizontal scrolling.
You must enable this feature in the driver settings. Scrolling should now be enabled in Windows 10. And after completing all the steps, check if this solves your problem.

Solutions to Fix Touchpad Scrolling No Scroll
To fix the problem of touchpad scrolling not working on Windows 10, you can try the following methods:
- Change Pointer Schema

- Restart/reboot your computer
- Change mouse pointer

Method 1 – Change Pointer Schema
To change the pointer layout on the touchpad, do the following:
- Find main.cpl by typing it in the Windows search bar. After you press the Windows key.
- Now from search results click on main.cpl
- Now go to the pointers tab.
- Then choose the scheme you like.
- Click “Apply”
- Now click OK and close the window.
Method 2 – Update the touchpad driver
If the touchpad scroller does not work, the touchpad driver may be out of date. A simple update to the touchpad driver in Windows should fix this issue.
To update the touchpad driver on your PC, be sure to follow these steps.
- The first thing you need to do is open Device Manager on your PC. Use Windows key + X to open the option as shown below. And click Device Manager.
- Then find the touchpad device option by going to Mouse and other pointing devices options.
- Finally, click “Update Driver”to successfully update the desired driver.
Reinstalling the driver.
And now, in order to reinstall the driver on your PC, you must uninstall the driver.
To do this, do the following:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Uninstall the desired driver by right-clicking it and selecting Uninstall.
Windows will then automatically try to reinstall the driver you just uninstalled.
Method 3 – Roll back the touchpad driver update
Several times, updated drivers start to give us unnecessary problems. And in order to fix it, the best thing to do is to roll back the device driver to the previous one, solving many fixes for us, as it may happen that the freshly updated driver is incompatible with your device.
Now, to roll back the touchpad driver update to the previous one, follow the given instructions:
- Open Device Manager.
- Now locate your mouse driver or touchpad driver.
- Right-click it to see more options and select properties.
- Now in the properties go to the Driver tab.
- On the Drivers tab, select Roll Back Device Driver.
- Now follow the instructions and you are done.

Method 4 – Change the Registry Editor
With the Registry Editor, you can easily make a few changes to keys/buttons or functions on your keyboard, touchpad, or mouse.
First, be sure to back up your registry file to avoid corrupting registry entries if something goes wrong.
Once you’ve backed up your registry, you’re all set.
Follow these steps to make changes to the registry and enable scrolling.
- Open Registry Editor by searching in the search bar.
- In the registry editor
- Carefully navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2 by clicking on the arrow icon next to the folder.
- Locate and double-click the 2FingerTapPluginID and 3FingerTapPluginID keys in the right pane.
- After verifying that these values are empty, set the key below to the correct values. (Just copy and paste it into the blank data field)
- MultiFingerTapFlags key for data value 2 or 3
- 3FingerTapAction keys up to 4.
- 3FingerTapPluginActionID to 0.
- Press the 2FingerTapAction key to 2 for the right click to work. (or 4 if you want the left click to work.)
Method 5 – Restart/Reboot Your Computer
Sometimes, when none of the other methods work for you, you may need to restart your computer. So, to reboot your system:
- Click the Windows key.
- Now press the power button and select the reboot option.
If restarting your computer doesn’t work, try starting your computer in Safe Mode/Safe Boot. So, to put your device into safe mode, follow these steps:
- Open Run by searching the taskbar, or press Windows key + R to open the Run app.
- Now type msconfig into the input box and press Enter.
- Now open the Boot tab and under Boot Options check the Safe Mode box and click OK to apply the changes.
Method 6 – Change Mouse Pointer/Enable via Mouse Properties
As strange as it sounds, many users have solved the whole issue of “touchpad/trackpad scrolling not working” simply by changing the mouse pointer.
To change the mouse pointer, do the following:
- Go to the control panel.
- Then find the mouse settings by going to the device settings.
- After opening the mouse settings, open the pointer window.
- Select a new pointer and click Apply.
Be sure to check if scrolling works on your laptop or not. And if that doesn’t work, move on to another method from this list.

Method 7 – Enable two-finger scrolling
- First, press Windows + R to bring up the Run utility.
- To open the mouse properties section, type main.cpl.
- Go to device settings and then click on settings to open mouse properties.
Make sure the multi-finger gesture box is filled with a checkmark, if there is no checkmark in front of the box, just tap on it to enable it.
Finally, close the window after closing the window and restart your computer to check if the method worked.
Method 8 – Repair or Uninstall Asus Smart Gesture App (if applicable)
If you have installed the Asus Smart Gesture app on your laptop, uninstalling it might solve your problem in this case. A corrupted or incomplete installation boot could be the cause of the touchpad not working. So to remove it:
- Press the Windows key and search for the Asus Smart Gesture app.
- Once you have it, click “Delete”in the menu that appears.
- Now follow the instructions and the application will be removed from your system. After doing that, check if the issue is resolved.
