Samsung ships nearly 10 million foldable smartphones in 2021

In 2021, Samsung shipped almost 10 million folding screen smartphones, and this significant number is expected to grow in 2022.

A few weeks before the long-awaited Unpacked event, Samsung announced that it had shipped “nearly 10 million foldable smartphones “worldwide. In a post to Samsung Newsroom, Samsung’s Director of Mobile Experience (MX) Dr. T. M. Roh explained that this represents a 300% increase over 2020 and that he expects this “rapid growth”to continue. The majority of customers in this segment, apparently around 70%, would choose the Flip, which closes like a clamshell. And that’s no surprise: Samsung admitted some time ago that the Flip 3 spurred more customers to switch to Samsung than its “traditional”flagships.

The 10 million units shipped by Samsung last year are far more than IDC previously reported. In a report from the International Data Corporation in February, we learned that after “observing global shipments of foldable smartphones in their two forms, [they] will reach a total of 7.1 million units in 2021.”Regardless of the actual figure, Samsung’s MX division saw revenue growth last year, driven largely by strong sales of its foldable screen devices and the latest generation Galaxy S.

A significant figure that should increase in 2022.

In addition to providing information on the sales status of these devices, TM Roh also confirmed that the company will be unveiling its next Flip and Fold models during the next Unpacked event. He also said that Samsung has improved the user experience on its devices: “I can’t wait for people to discover new ways to do even more things with these new foldable devices… During our next unboxing on August 10, you will see the impact of our Innovation is not just about what the technology can do. It’s about what you can do. Once again, we drew inspiration from our most important source – Galaxy users – to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
