WhatsApp: ephemeral messages can now be selected by default

WhatsApp goes further with its ephemeral messages. Now they can be selected in conversations by default.

One of WhatsApp’s many privacy-protecting features is called ephemeral messages. As the name suggests, this option allows users to send messages that disappear after a certain period of time. However, the problem now is that you must remember to enable them, and this option does not apply to previously sent messages. In other words, some users may forget to use it.

However, it looks like WhatsApp is aware of this little glitch. Indeed, the platform has just announced that users can now set ephemeral messages as the default option for their new conversations. This means that once activated, any new conversations you start will have ephemeral messages activated, so you don’t have to remember to do this every time.

According to WhatsApp, “Whatsapp users will now have the option to enable ephemeral messages by default for all of their new conversations. If this setting is enabled, messages in any new chats that you or someone else starts will disappear after a period of time you specify, and we’ve added a new setting to create a group chat that lets you turn it on for them. Groups you create. This new feature is optional and does not change or delete any of your existing conversations.”

In addition, WhatsApp will also offer new options for how long these ephemeral messages are displayed. Until now, we had to be content with 7 days.
