House of the Dragon: the first season of ten episodes will tell about the 28-year history of Westeros

At least 28 years of history before the start of “A Dance of the Dragons”will pass with the first season of the television series “House of the Dragon”.

American writer George R.R. Martin clarified the extent of coverage of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, which will lead to HBO’s Dance of the Dragons a few seasons later:

A lot is happening in Westeros as a continent, and things are happening everywhere, but what concerns us most in the House of the Dragon is the question of the succession to the Iron Throne. Of course, the series begins in AD 101, at the Great Council that old King Harris called to allow the lords of the realm to advise him on who should inherit the Iron Throne after his death. Then in A.D. 129 the war itself breaks out, giving us a gap of 28 years just for the first season. And you see how different characters are introduced and the conflict starts to develop, the seeds of what will eventually become war. But not now. Seeds germinate, feelings escalate, resentments build up and all that, so yeah, there’s a lot going on in this story.

From Game of Thrones to House of the Dragon.

The House of the Dragon has ambitions to bring back some of the Game of Thrones magic. This prequel takes place two hundred years prior and follows the second century of the Targaryen family claiming the Iron Throne and ruling the continent of Westeros. It chronicles the fall of their dynasty, torn apart by a civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, detailed in Martin’s two-volume historical novel Fire and Blood. The cast includes Paddy Considine, Ryan Corr, Eva Best, Graham McTavish, Olivia Cooke, Sonoya Mizuno, Bill Paterson, Matthew Needham, Emma D’Arcy, Rhys Ifans and former Doctor Who star Matt Smith.
