Netflix’s BioShock has found a director and screenwriter. Francis Lawrence has the daunting task of bringing this project, based on a screenplay by Michael Green, to life.

Now Hollywood seems ready to dive head first into video game adaptation projects for the big and small screens. There are plenty of ideas, licenses too, and dozens of future adaptations have already been announced. Let’s hope that success will be there, the exercise is always quite risky. Among the many already well-known projects is the film BioShock produced by Netflix. And now we know a little more.

Netflix’s BioShock has found a director and screenwriter

Last February, Netflix announced that it was working with 2K and Take-Two Interactive on a film project based on the BioShock license. A big step has been taken today as the film now has a writer and director. Michael Green – the creator of Logan, Blade Runner 2049 and American Gods – is working on the script, while Francis Lawrence will take over as director.

Francis Lawrence faces the daunting task of bringing this project to life.

In addition to I Am Legend, Francis Lawrence has directed four of the five Hunger Games films, as well as several episodes of See for Apple TV+. He is currently filming The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. So don’t expect a long trailer for the BioShock movie.

In any case, it would seem that this film is more or less a loose adaptation of the first game in the franchise. The Netflix Tudum website does recall a few key lines from the original BioShock, and elaborates that Francis Lawrence will “soon have someone put on the Big Daddy armor to face the flooded corridors of Rapture.”Hopefully Netflix will reveal more details before we even forget this project even exists.
