Good Night Oppy releases on Amazon Prime Video on November 23rd.
More than a year after the first announcement, Amazon just released the first trailer for Goodnight Oppie. In this upcoming documentary, we (re-)learn the full story of NASA’s Opportunity rover, or Oppie, as its creators lovingly dubbed it. The documentary was directed by Ryan White, who gave us The Assassins, and Angela Bassett, best known for her roles in Black Panther and Contact, provided the narration. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory participated in the project, including providing archival footage and all of its knowledge of this very important mission.
A great opportunity to learn all about the Opportunity rover.
Opportunity was one of two rovers that NASA landed on the surface of Mars in 2004. What should have been a 90-day mission turned into a 15-year adventure to explore the surface of the Red Planet. Meanwhile, the rover has shown that Mars once had oceans of liquid water and currently holds the record for the longest distance traveled by a vehicle outside of Earth. Throughout its mission, the rover has consistently transmitted breathtaking images of the Red Planet back to Earth. “Goodnight Oppie”will premiere in a number of theaters in the US – there is no word on a possible broadcast in France – before it hits Amazon Prime Video on November 23rd.
If you like space exploration and/or beautiful images, you will love this documentary.
