This little trick helps prevent an impromptu Windows reboot.
This trick can interrupt your PC reboot. And it’s as easy as holding down a key.
It’s always frustrating that our PC does things we don’t expect it to do – yes, we’re thinking about you, damn automatic software updates that always come at the most inopportune moment. The only thing perhaps more painful than such a computer is when the problem comes from us. Sometimes this can happen when you accidentally restart your computer. What happens from time to time is when you want to turn it off and press the Restart button instead. But instead of waiting for your computer to restart so you can shut it down properly, use this little trick to interrupt the process.
This trick can interrupt your PC reboot
Content creator jackstechtopia recently posted on TikTok a quick way to interrupt a reload after it has started. If your computer has just rebooted or is showing a blue screen with a small boot wheel, you can hold down the Esc key to abort the process. After a few seconds, you will see the blue restart screen disappear, replaced by the home screen. From there, you can either continue using your computer as you normally would, or if you really want to turn it off, turn it off.
And it’s as easy as holding down a key
I didn’t know about this trick, so I immediately tested it on my Windows PC and… holding the Esc key actually canceled the reboot, as explained by jackstechtopia. And judging by the many comments below the video, I wasn’t the only Windows user who didn’t know about this trick. Another reason to explain why the Esc key is called that.
