LG’s concept places a shelf on top of a pair of 55-inch transparent OLED displays.

LG Display wants to make OLED panels more appealing to consumers and is showing off some concepts ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

The OLED Shelf concept uses two transparent 55-inch OLED displays, which LG Display first launched on the market in 2019. They are 40 percent transparent, but according to The Verge, LG’s concept includes an opaque sheet that can roll down like a projector screen. “to make the images look more saturated.

One display sits on top of the other, as can be seen from the visible horizontal line separating the two displays, and the pair has a robe-like shelf on top.

LG’s transparent OLED panels can currently be found in malls, subways, and museums. The technology is appealing to commercial customers with its thin and light weight, and transparent displays are typically 1080p. The OLED shelf, on the other hand, demonstrates how this technology can be used in the living room.

LG wants the OLED shelf to look like a living room décor, a concept we’ve already seen in products like the LG Gallery Series and Samsung Frame TV.

Since OLED screens are transparent, you could theoretically place other drawings or photos behind them to be visible when the display is not in use. You can also, for example, display a work of art on one display and a TV show on another.
