Overwatch 2 auto-purchase bug fixed but no refund possible (explained)

The launch of Overwatch 2 has caused issues, bugs, and constant crashes for most players. In doing so, Blizzard quickly fixed an auto-buy bug that caused players to make random purchases. This issue occurred when players used the in-game chat. But Blizzard says it won’t be able to refund any purchases. So, here’s everything you need to know about the auto-buy error in Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 – Blizzard Fixes Auto Buy Bug But Refuses to Offer Any Refunds

A Reddit user, u/Dracyoshi, drew attention to the automatic purchase error. Using the in-game chat in the Hero Gallery, they accidentally purchased the Plutonia skin for the Junker Queen. Before the Reddit user could cancel the purchase, they had already gone through and purchased the skin. Drashoshi noticed that the game was misinterpreting typed text as input for menu navigation. In addition, Drashiosi also mentioned that it only takes two presses of the spacebar to unlock the skin. Thus, anyone can become a victim of such a mistake.

When a user contacted Blizzard support, they responded with an email. They stated that they cannot offer refunds for unlocking with in-game currency. Drashiosi added that while the bug resulted in 300 stale credits, it could have been worse if players had lost their premium currency. You can view the entire thread by clicking here.

Due to the fact that Overwatch 2 already has a lot of problems and bugs, things are not going well. Having said that, we recommend that you be careful when you browse the hero gallery and use the chat. A recent hotfix update on October 10th did resolve the chat bug that caused this error. But the refund issue remains a headache for some players.

There have been protests from other frustrated OW 2 players as well. This can be quite disappointing as Blizzard does not issue or offer any refunds. But we can only hope that Blizzard will refund the affected players.
