Overwatch 2: Blizzard offers gifts after chaotic launch
Blizzard gestures to players after Overwatch 2’s chaotic launch: free items, events, and corrective updates.
At the very least, we can say Overwatch 2’s launch hasn’t been easy. We may be an important studio like Blizzard with massive resources, but it’s hard for us to counter a major DDoS attack. And who says the new game is also talking about its share of bugs. What was supposed to be a fan party actually wasn’t. Many couldn’t play at all. So the studio decided to make a move.
Blizzard gestures towards players after Overwatch 2’s chaotic launch
Blizzard has already acknowledged that the launch of Overwatch 2, marred by numerous bugs, DDoS attacks and other problems, did not live up to the expectations of the players and the company. While the studio has made a lot of progress towards making the game playable – given that thousands of fans haven’t even been able to connect – the site is far from complete. Now the developers are trying to smooth the situation and appease morals by offering small freebies and arranging events. As such, players will in particular be eligible for Double Match XP Weekend to give them the opportunity to earn points and progress. Blizzard will announce specific dates for these events very soon.
Free Items, Events, and Fixes
The studio will also provide players who log in between October 25 and the end of Season 1 with the Cursed Reaper Captain Legendary Skin and Medkit Weapon Charm. These two items will be automatically added to players’ inventory when they log into the game during this period. In its announcement, Blizzard also clarified that it will soon be rolling out several updates aimed at improving the stability of the game, starting with a patch scheduled for this week. The developers are also monitoring the servers closely to identify other potential issues and bugs that may occur.
The studio maintains a public list of known bugs on its forum, but players are experiencing more issues than officially acknowledged. Some have reported issues with certain characters in the game, such as Mei, whose ice wall is behaving strangely, according to a post by Kotaku. Blizzard even had to completely remove two heroes from the game in order to fix bugs in their abilities.
