1. Swipe to delete numbers
In life, it is almost impossible not to make mistakes. The number of mistakes I make every day has become countless. Again, if there was an option to erase and get it right, that would be great.
Unfortunately, in the Calculator app, you have no other choice but to erase the entire number, even if you only make one mistake. It’s annoying, but there is a solution.
Swipe right or left and only the last digit will be deleted.
2. Copy the latest result from the Control Center
Instead of opening the calculator app to check the result of your last calculation, you can quickly access it from the Control Center. But before that, make sure the calculator is added to the Control Center.
To change its position, hold the hamburger menu and move it accordingly. Once you’ve done that, follow these steps.
If you see a (-) icon next to the calculator, it has already been added to the Control Center and you can proceed to the next step.
- Open Control Center.
- Press and hold the calculator icon.
- Click “Copy last result”.
This will copy the last result from the calculator to the clipboard.
3. Access the Scientific Calculator on iPhone
There are always people who want more. For them, the regular Calculator app will never be enough. The people at Apple knew the same thing, and that’s why they added the Scientific Calculator.
Get more out of the Scientific Calculator
If the current features available with the Engineering Calculator are not enough for you, you can get even more! Press the second button and you will see that some of the options are replaced by the new ones. To return to the old settings, click the same button again.
4. Get a random decimal number
5. Easy copy and paste
6. Use Siri for quick calculations
The Siri voice assistant was launched to help you with your daily activities. If you want to do some quick calculations, Siri can help you.
The answer will be displayed instantly.
7. Use Spotlight for Instant Calculation
If Siri is your assistant, then Spotlight should be “Assistant Regional Manager”. In addition to quick searches, you can use Spotlight to do small things like set a timer or alarm, or even do instant calculations.
- Open Spotlight search on your iPhone.
- Enter numbers and mathematical operations. (You can use the “*”sign for the multiplication sign.)
As soon as you type the task, the amount will be shown instantly. You can either copy it or go on with your life after getting the solution (maths, not real problems).
8. Make the iPhone read the number
For those with vision problems or who want to hear the numbers out loud, the Calculator app has that option. Here’s how to do it:
- Open settings.
- Touch Availability.
- Select Conversational Content.
- Turn on speech selection.
- Press and hold a number, then select Speak.
9. Quickly calculate tips on iPhone
There is always a case where you would like to calculate a certain percentage of your account as a tip, but your poor math skills will become the villain. No more struggle as you have an iPhone with the excellent Calculator app.
Use Siri to calculate tips
When you need help, Siri is your voice assistant. You can calculate tips on iPhone by following these steps:
Wake up Siri and ask, “Hey Siri. What is a 20% tip on $100?”
Siri will display a calculator card with the tip amount and the total amount due. You can also try similar phrases for tipping with Siri.
What to do if Siri can’t calculate tips?
Even during testing, I had a hard time getting Siri to do this simple trick. If you are experiencing the same issue, it may be because tips may not be accepted in your area; therefore, Siri has not been programmed to show you the results in an appropriate way. Regardless, you can still use this feature. Here’s how:
- Open settings.
- Tap Siri & Search.
- Turn off then on Hear “Hey Siri”.
- Then wake up Siri and say “Hey Siri.”
- After Siri responds, continue with the request and you’ll get a solution.
10. Use Apple Watch to calculate tips
If you have an Apple Watch, then tipping is much easier.
- Open the Calculator app on your Apple Watch.
- Enter the amount and tap Tip.
- Choose tip percentage and people.
You will see the total amount including tips.
