Apple raises prices for Music and TV+ for the first time
Starting today, Apple is raising the monthly subscription price of its music and TV streaming services for the first time. The Apple One package is also getting more expensive.
An Apple spokesperson announced the change in a statement cited by 9to5Mac:
Starting today, Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple One subscription prices will go up. The move to Apple Music comes with increased licensing costs, and in turn, artists and songwriters will earn more for streaming their music. We also continue to add innovative features that make Apple Music the best music listening experience in the world. We introduced Apple TV+ at a very low price because we started with a few TV shows and movies. Three years later, Apple TV+ offers a wide selection of award-winning and highly acclaimed series, feature films, documentaries, and entertainment for kids and families from the world’s most creative storytellers.
Apple Music previously cost $9.99 per month for an individual account and $14.99 for a family account. Now it’s $10.99 and $16.99. The annual subscription has also changed; an individual yearly subscription used to cost $99 and now costs $109. Similarly, Apple TV+ has gone from $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year to $6.99 and $69.
Although Apple has increased subscription fees for the first time, this is not unusual for such services. For example, Disney+ increased its subscription fees just a couple of months ago, and Netflix subscribers are well aware of the gradual increase in prices for this service.
