The Peak Design Everyday Backpack is a smart camera or EDC bag.
The way people take their things with them when they leave the house varies, especially depending on what you take with you. Whether you’re packing your mobile essentials to take your MacBook anywhere, packing clothes and toiletries for a hike, or packing your camera for the perfect travel shot, the Peak Design Everyday Backpack is the perfect place to go. start looking.
Peak Design Casual Backpack
I use the Peak Design Everyday Backpack for two main reasons: first, to bring a small amount of photography equipment with me to shoots, and second, to take a few changes of clothes and other essentials with me when I stay at home. hotel or leave home for more than a day.
The Peak Design Everyday Backpack is an interesting piece of engineering, a stark departure from the usual backpack designs you’re probably more than familiar with every time you buy it from a major store or even online.
Instead of a single top-loading pocket for your books, laptop, clothes, and other large items, and a smaller front pocket for things like your smartphone, writing utensils, cables, and whatever else can fit in there, the Peak Design Everyday Backpack is a side-loading backpack that completely rethinks the volume of the modern backpack, allowing you to organize the center compartment your way with new origami-inspired dividers.
As you will see in the photo examples, I use these spacers to perfectly separate my lenses and gear from each other, providing a pad between them to avoid damage while traveling. My bag usually contains a camera body with an attached lens, one telephoto lens, a main lens, and cleaning equipment such as a Giottos jet air blaster.
These dividers are held on with strong Velcro and can be removed and reinstalled an infinite number of times to fit whatever you may be packing. For me, that means photography equipment, so I organized the Everyday Backpack around what I would take with me on a typical day of photography. When I use the Everyday Backpack as a weekend pack, I move the partitions to make room for clothes and larger items.
The Peak Design Everyday Backpack features several small pockets all around the bag, such as in the side flaps, on the upper back and in the rear laptop compartment. As you’ll see below, I use flap pockets to store things like camera lens filters, SSDs, adapters, cables, and anything else that might fit.
The back of the Peak Design Everyday Backpack features an adjustable laptop pocket that holds up to a 16-inch MacBook Pro with an M1/M2 processor and a full-size 12.9-inch iPad Pro. There’s even a hidden pocket to store smaller items like cables.
Another unique feature of the Peak Design Everyday Backpack is the top-loading magnetic closure. This secure closure can be attached to one of several different crossbars, each providing a different volume expansion dynamic for the top compartment – perfect for last-minute additions, like weekend trip souvenirs to take home with you. Oh, and there’s another hidden pocket.
The elasticated side pockets of the Peak Design Casual Backpack fit a water bottle, a metal glass, or even the iconic Peak Design travel tripod. If you’re using a tripod for travel, we recommend using one of the backpack’s many retractable straps to secure it to your backpack so it can’t be removed without your knowledge.
On the back, the Peak Design Everyday Backpack features padded shoulder straps that rotate on a metal pivot to ensure comfort for all body types and sizes, no matter how you wear it. These straps attach magnetically to the back of the Everyday Backpack when not in use, preventing unwanted wobble, and also have room for the included chest strap to provide extra support when you load your bag with a heavier load.
Peak Design’s Everyday Backpack is different from the regular backpack market because it’s been purpose-built for access, organization, expansion, and protection. In addition, the engineers made sure to use materials that will withstand the weather, such as 100% recycled 400D nylon, which consists of an outer material (water resistant, by the way), waterproof UltraZip zippers with leather protection. clips and non-standard metal fittings for buttons, zippers and clips.
Peak Design’s everyday backpack is available in two sizes: 20L and 30L, as well as in black, charcoal grey, navy blue and ash white. The one we showed you is the 20L in black and it provides the perfect silhouette for a short 150 lb guy with a normal build and average height. If you’re bigger than this, then you might feel more comfortable with the 30L, which gives you a lot more room.
My thoughts: Winner in my book
The Peak Design Everyday Backpack is a versatile backpack that can be configured for just about any load you can imagine. I’ve always struggled to organize regular backpacks to my liking, especially when it comes to carrying bulky and clunky items with my laptop and making sure nothing breaks, but the Peak Design Everyday Backpack does it all. for me with handy custom delimiters so I don’t have to worry about that.
It is easy to appreciate the weather-resistant materials that make the bag easy to use in both rain and sunshine. The materials don’t let water through to your belongings, but instead the liquid drips like a Rain X-treated windshield. Obviously, you shouldn’t throw your bag into a pool or body of water, but rainwater won’t be a problem, especially if you’re walking and actively seeking cover.
I love that the Peak Design Everyday backpack has magnets just about everywhere to keep everything convenient and fast. Peak Design clearly doesn’t like loose things, so things like pockets, straps, and even a top-loading compartment are magnetically attracted to the backpack to prevent things from loosing.
I also really like the number of different attachment points and handles that can be found on the outside of the bag. There’s always a handy spot to clip on one of the various external storage straps, or to quickly grab a bag that isn’t the top-most handle.
In terms of comfort, as long as you don’t load the pack with too much weight, you’ll find that the padding is great for your shoulders and back. The included chest strap really helps stabilize the load so your shoulders can relax a bit, preventing the shoulder-biting feeling that comes with an overloaded backpack. It also helps a lot that the straps are hinged, so they can conform to your body shape better than regular straps.
