Nintendo and mobile giant DeNA are launching a mysterious subsidiary of Nintendo Systems
Nintendo and DeNA launch a subsidiary of Nintendo Systems. But what could it be used for?
Late last year, Nintendo announced that it was going to form a joint venture called Nintendo Systems with mobile game developer DeNA. Today the company is officially launched. But what exactly will it be used for? So far, everything remains rather mysterious. There is an official website, but that’s all. The November press release explained that the company will work to “strengthen the digitalization of Nintendo’s business”and create new “value-added services.”
Nintendo and DeNA launch subsidiary Nintendo Systems
Nintendo and DeNA have been working closely together since 2015, with the latter developing a number of mobile games based on Big N licenses such as Pocket Camp. One possibility could be that this brand new subsidiary of Nintendo Systems will develop and publish future games for mobile devices.
But what could it be used for?
There is another option, less glamorous, so to speak. In addition to developing mobile games, DeNA also manages some of the infrastructure required for various Nintendo Account services. Big N have stated that they will continue to use Nintendo Accounts on their future consoles, this new company may just be a way to keep everything inside.
After all, the website also suggests that Nintendo Systems will assist in the “development and operation of systems related to the digital side of Nintendo’s business.”This is a very vague translation from Japanese, so it may seem rather boring, but it will enhance the possibility of the second option. As of now, Nintendo hasn’t made any official announcements to clarify all of this. Patience, patience!
