Whatsapp status not showing on iPhone? 8 ways to fix it!
WhatsApp Status allows users to upload images or videos that automatically disappear after 24 hours. Many users are experiencing an issue where they are unable to view the status uploads of one of their contacts or, in some cases, all of their contacts. If you are one of them, we have prepared this guide to help you. Read on to find out how to fix WhatsApp status not showing on iPhone.
- Switching Between Cellular Data and Wi-Fi
- Check if you have muted the user
- Check if you are blocked by a user
- Ask a contact to review their privacy settings
- Force close WhatsApp and restart
- Update whatsapp
- Restart your iPhone
- Try checking the status on WhatsApp Web
1. Switch between cellular data and Wi-Fi
You need an internet connection to view download statuses from your contacts. If you are unable to view the status download or if the status download is not loading, it may be due to network connection problems. In such cases, we recommend switching from Wi-Fi to Cellular/Mobile Data or vice versa.
There is a high chance that you will be able to view downloadable statuses immediately after making this change. Slow internet speed certainly causes a lot of problems. I’d rather be without internet than suffer from problems caused by slow internet.
2. Check if you disabled the user
Although the chances of this happening are very small, it is possible that you have accidentally muted the user and therefore cannot view their WhatsApp status downloads. Downloading the status of disabled contacts is now hidden in the Status tab under Disabled Updates. Here’s how to unmute a contact in WhatsApp.
- Launch WhatsApp → go to the Status tab.
- Navigate to the Disabled Updates option at the bottom. It will show all status downloads from disconnected contacts.
- Now, if you find the status of the contact you were looking for, tap the status of the disabled contact.
- Tap on the three dots in the top right corner.
- Select the Unmute Sound pop-up window → tap Unmute Sound again to confirm.
3. Check if you are blocked by a user
When you block a contact on WhatsApp, your profile picture, status upload information, etc. are hidden from the user. Similarly, if someone blocks you on WhatsApp, you won’t be able to view that data either. We have a dedicated guide to help you determine if you are blocked on WhatsApp.
4. Ask the contact to review their privacy settings.
Now, if you are not blocked by a user and still cannot view their status uploads, it may be because they have hidden their status from you. If the person whose status you are trying to view is a good friend, you can ask them to review their privacy settings.
However, if this person is not a close friend, we recommend that you do not approach them. It will only make the situation more awkward than it already is. Moreover, if the user deliberately hid from you the loading of his status, he may have his own reasons for this.
5. Force close WhatsApp and restart
Sometimes apps won’t update/reload when running in the background for a long time. In this case, we recommend that you force close the application and restart it. Force quitting and restarting WhatsApp can fix the problem and load the status download from your contacts.
- Launch the app switcher on your iPhone. All applications running in the background will appear.
- Go to the WhatsApp window and swipe up to force close WhatsApp.
- Restart WhatsApp → go to the Status tab. Check if the status downloads are now visible.
6. Update whatsapp
If you are unable to view status downloads even after restarting WhatsApp, it may be because you are using an older version of the app. It is also possible that the version of WhatsApp running on your device has a software bug. Regardless, you should update WhatsApp to the latest version to ensure a smooth experience.
- Open the App Store on your iPhone → tap the profile icon.
- Go to the Upcoming Updates menu and check if WhatsApp is on the list. If you’ve turned on automatic updates, you’ll see Upcoming Automatic Updates.
- If an update is available for WhatsApp, click the Update button.
Once the update is complete, restart WhatsApp and check if you are viewing status downloads from contacts.
7. Restart iPhone
Restarting the iPhone will also restart any active services running on the device. This can also resolve any network errors that are causing the problem. Also resetting electronic gadgets is one of the oldest and most reliable troubleshooting methods. We have a detailed guide to help you reset your iPhone no matter which model you are using.
8. Try Checking Status on WhatsApp Web
If none of the above tricks worked, then there might be an issue with WhatsApp only on your iPhone. The next best way is to log into WhatsApp Web and check the download status of your contacts. Here’s how to sign in to WhatsApp Web.
- Open a browser on your Mac or PC and go to web.whatsapp.com.
- Now open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
- Go to “Settings”and select the “Linked Devices”option.
- Here, click “Link Device”and after authenticating with biometrics, scan the QR code displayed on your Mac.
- When WhatsApp has finished downloading, tap the Status icon on the left side of the screen.
You will now be able to view status downloads from your contacts.
No more hassle with WhatsApp status update!
We hope you can now view the status updates of your contacts. If your issue has been resolved in a different way than the one mentioned above, please let us know in the comments and we’ll add it to the list.
