Epic Games Announces Building a Metaverse for Kids with LEGO
LEGO and Epic Games will shape the future of the Metaverse to make it safe and fun for kids and families.
Like future rival Roblox, the LEGO and Epic Games Metaverse for Kids will be a family-friendly digital experience that provides access to tools to help young shooters become confident creators and empower them to create amazing games in a safe and positive space. As the metaverse evolves, it changes how people meet, play, work, learn, and interact in the virtual 3D world. The two companies will combine their vast experience to ensure that the next version of the Internet is designed with children in mind from the start.
“LEGO has been capturing the imaginations of kids and adults alike with imaginative play for nearly a century, and we’re thrilled to be coming together to build a space in the Metaverse that is fun, engaging, and crafted for kids and adults alike,” he said.. Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic Games. Niels B. Christiansen, CEO of The LEGO Group, added: “Kids love to play in the digital and physical worlds and transition seamlessly between them. We believe they have a huge potential for developing life skills such as creativity, collaboration and communication through digital experiences. But we have an obligation to make them safe, stimulating and beneficial for everyone. Just as we have championed children’s rights to safe physical play for generations, we are committed to doing the same for digital play. We look forward to working with Epic Games to shape this exciting and fun future. ”

LEGO and Epic Games have agreed to three principles to ensure that the digital spaces they develop provide engaging, safe and fun play experiences, namely providing children and adults with the tools to take control of their digital experiences.
- Epic Games has a track record of creating creative tools and immersive worlds that are open and accessible to players and developers around the world. She is at the forefront of popular culture, creating experiences that bring people together through play, music and creative collaboration. Epic Games is also committed to empowering developers to create age-appropriate online games, and in 2020 acquired SuperAwesome, a pioneering technology company dedicated to providing safe digital experiences for children under 16.
- For 90 years, LEGO has inspired generations of children to play with the endless creative possibilities of LEGO bricks, which remain the foundation of its business. The company is a leader in the development of safe digital play for children, including the development of an industry-standard Children’s Digital Safety Policy with UNICEF and the launch in 2016 of the first fully moderated social app for children.
