Tomb Raider is sure to be eligible for another reboot

Now that MGM has lost the rights to Tomb Raider, is a new Tomb Raider reboot in the works?

In 2018, MGM launched a reboot of Tomb Raider starring Alicia Vikander. A movie that was a big hit at the box office. The sequel then seemed acquired with the same actress in the same vein as the Crystal Dynamics reboot trilogy. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic passed through it, and since then the studio has remained completely silent on this topic. Today it looks like another reboot is being prepared.

Now that MGM has lost the rights to Tomb Raider,

According to The Wrap, now that MGM has lost the licensing rights to Tomb Raider, the studios want to afford the opportunity. As a result of this license change, Alicia Vikander will no longer be Lara Croft and we will have to go back in search of a new star for the film and, of course, a director. Curiously, the Netflix animated series, which will star Hayley Atwell as Lara Croft and will be a full sequel from the video game reboot, is still in development.

Tomb Raider is a very popular license for both video games and movies. The original dulogy of the 2000s starring Angelina Jolie brought the world about $435 million. The 2018 film, meanwhile, grossed $274.7 million. And with Indiana Jones seemingly coming to an end and Sony getting Tom Holland for Spider-Man and Uncharted, it’s only natural that the studio would want to continue this franchise.

Is a new Tomb Raider reboot on the way?

News of a new Tomb Raider reboot comes around the same time that the script for the next Crystal Dynamics Raider game comes out. In the latter, the more experienced Lara must train a group of young treasure hunters to help her deal with her worst threat. Whether this information is correct or not, we’ll have to wait a long time before discovering this new game, and probably even longer before finding out everything about a possible new movie, with a famous actress or a complete stranger who will raise the torch.
