Here’s what’s new and great in iOS 16 beta 5
Earlier today, Apple gave developers the fifth beta of iOS 16. And as usual, the new seed also includes a few new formula tweaks. Nothing is set in stone, and some of these new elements may not make it to the final release when the software is released to the public later this year.
Until then, though, here’s a sneak peak of what’s new in the latest iOS 16 developer beta.
New features and other changes in iOS 16 dev beta 5
- Status Bar Battery Percentage: As we noted in a separate article, Apple found the status bar battery percentage indicator to be decent. And, as a result, a triumphant return. For those who may not know, Apple removed the battery percentage indicator from the status bar when it released the iPhone X. Since then, no new flagship iPhones have included this feature. However, this will change with the launch of iOS 16 as Apple has finally brought it back.
- Now plays on the lock screen: Apple has added a real-time audio visualizer to the Apple Music Lock Screen feature. Now it is present in the upper right corner of the function and will respond to the music being played.
- Apple Music and Lossless Audio/Dolby Atmos: Apple has made a small change to the Apple Music app by rearranging the details for Dolby Atmos and Lossless Audio. In the current public version of iOS, this information is provided under the Play and Shuffle buttons. However, in iOS 16, Apple is moving them right next to the genre of the song/album you’re listening to.
- No more perspective scaling for lock screen wallpapers: Apple made an interesting move by removing the perspective scaling feature for lock screen wallpapers.
- Screenshots: Apple adds another option when you’re done editing a screenshot. Now, after you take that screenshot and edit it, when you hit Done, there will be another option that includes Copy and Delete instead of just Delete.
- Find My Sound: Apple has made the sound that plays when you try to find your lost iPhone a bit louder and more different from what was present in previous betas or in iOS 15.
- New sound for finding iPhone using Apple Watch. In addition to changing Find My, Apple has also added a different sound when you try to find a lost iPhone with your Apple Watch. It’s the same one that Apple uses for the new Find My sound, making everything the same when needed.
- Emergency Call (formerly known as Emergency SOS): When you activate the emergency screen in this latest iOS 16 beta (learn how to do it here), the “Emergency SOS Call”option has been changed to “Emergency Call”.
That’s it, big new additions to the latest iOS 16 beta.
