Google is making a number of changes to the Memories feature in Photos. Until now, these auto-generated memories have been private, but now Mountain View is adding the ability to share them. From today, you can share your memories with others if you have an Android device. Friends and family will be able to view your memories on any device through Google Photos. This sharing option will come to iOS and the web at a later date.

This update is part of a larger Remembrance initiative. This updated feature will offer more videos, including what Google considers the best clips from your long videos. Google Photos will choose the most significant elements of your videos to add as a keepsake. Starting in October, Google will also add an instrumental track to the list of memories.

Google explains that some photos will also have a slight scaling effect to make them a little less static. Moreover, there will be a new type of memory – Cinematic Memory. It will offer cinematic photos, one of the most used effects in Souvenir, which creates moving 3D representations of static images. This type of souvenir will be available soon and there will also be music.

With regard to the visualization of memories, a new method of navigation will be proposed. In addition to touching left or right to move between photos in memory, you can switch between memories by swiping up or down. You can delete the ones you are not interested in.

For the rest, we will also mention a new feature called “Styles”. It allows you to add graphic touches to your memories. Google offers several ready-made designs, including time-limited options from artists such as Chantell Martin and Lisa Congdon.

Collage editor redesigned

Starting today, Photos users on Android and iOS also have access to the new collage editor. You can choose images, design and change the layout as you like. It is also possible to change photos from the collage editor – contrast, brightness, filters, etc. -. If you have a Pixel or Google One subscription, you’ll have access to more editing tools, including Portrait Lighting and HDR options. You will also have a wider choice of designs. These collages can also be shared.

Google claims that Memories is one of the most popular Photos features, with more than 3.5 billion monthly views. These updates should make it easier to create them. And while the sharing options are still quite limited, you can always save the memory on your phone and then post it to Instagram or Snapchat if you want.
