ProMotion now works with Safari thanks to macOS 12.2
ProMotion is finally compatible with Safari, but only in macOS 12.2.
Among the new features introduced by Apple in the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros is ProMotion. For those who don’t know, this is a marketing term for the Apple brand, which means that its laptops have a screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. That said, it’s not clear why not all apps were compatible with this 120Hz refresh rate. the web home browser, Safari, was on that list.
ProMotion is finally compatible with Safari
That being said, today there is good news on this subject for MacBook Pro owners who frequently use Safari. Indeed, with the latest macOS 12.2 update, Safari now supports this higher refresh rate. This is evidenced by several user posts on the MacRumors forum. They noticed improvements in Safari, including smoother and smoother scrolling.
but only in macOS version 12.2
To be completely honest, most users are probably used to the “classic”60Hz, but when you’re shelling out so much for a laptop, the fact that a native app comes preinstalled with macOS doesn’t matter. Not fully compatible with built-in hardware technologies such as ProMotion may seem odd indeed. Luckily, the Cupertino-based company quickly filled that gap, so to speak.
That being said, you should be aware that macOS 12.2 is still in beta testing. Until yesterday, it was only available to developers. The public beta was published by the Cupertino-based company on Saturday, December 18th. However, we do not recommend using such a version for everyday use as it may contain a certain number of bugs. At this time, no one knows when macOS 12.2 will be officially available.
