Babylon’s Fall: One Year After Launch, Servers Will Shut Down
The poor choice of Square Enix and PlatinumGames was right for the failure of Babylon’s Fall.
The Babylon’s Fall servers, a collaboration between PlatinumGames and Square Enix, will be shutting down soon on PS5, PS4 and PC (Steam):
We deeply regret to inform you that on February 27, 2023, we will discontinue Babylon’s Fall online services. As a result, we are also canceling our planned large-scale updates. As for the plan ahead, Season 2 will run until Tuesday, November 29, 2022 as planned, with the final season starting with scheduled maintenance on the same day. In this final season, you can earn season 2 ranking rewards. “When the servers are down.
From “Babylon Falls”to “Babylon Falls,”a change in style would be costly.
Originally presented as a Souls-like game with a brand new art and graphic style, Babylon’s Fall will finally evolve into a hack and slash focused solely on multiplayer and online features… Beginning of a rift between players. Combining a very expensive starting price, questionable free-to-play economic model, generic gameplay, and original but completely failed art direction, the new license from PlatinumGames had all the planned failures and failed. Sales never took off as Square Enix would have liked, and critics were particularly vicious about it, to the point that it was considered the lowest-rated game on Metacritic in years.
PlatinumGames thanks Babylon’s Fall players
While there shouldn’t be thousands of them, Japanese studio PlatinumGames wanted to send a final message to those who are still having fun with Babylon Has Fallen:
To date, we have received a lot of feedback from all of our Guardians through numerous surveys, official live streams, our official Discord server, and social media channels, which has been of great help to the development and operations teams. In particular, thanks to our surveys, we have received a large number of enthusiastic messages of support, as well as specific comments about problems and suggestions for improvement. It really gave us the feeling that we were able to create the world of Babylon Fall together with our players. Despite all your support, we are very sad and sorry to announce that we will not be able to continue servicing the game.
