This shortcut makes your Apple Music playlists safe for your kids’ ears
This Siri shortcut clears the playlist of songs with explicit lyrics. Simple and damn effective.
If you have Apple Music playlists for the holidays or any other occasion for that matter, but which contain songs with lyrics not necessarily suitable for a younger audience, you don’t have to worry anymore. the whole family is at home. Indeed, there is a Siri shortcut that takes care of just that.
This Siri shortcut clears the playlist of songs with explicit lyrics
It’s not a feature that Apple originally integrated into its streaming service, but there’s no doubt that the Cupertino-based company should. This comes from user AdTrue6877 on Reddit. This Siri shortcut scans all the songs in any Apple Music playlist and creates a new playlist that replaces songs with explicit lyrics with their “clean”versions. It’s the fastest way to create playlists for the whole family in Apple Music.
To get started, you need to download the Make Clean Playlist shortcut and run it on your phone. The shortcut will automatically show you a popup that will allow you to scroll and select any of your Apple Music playlists. From there, the shortcut will ask you for the name of the new playlist and start creating a clean version. The process may take some time, please be patient.
Simple and damn effective
With this, you don’t have to stay in front of the screen and the progress bar in the Shortcut app. Open Apple Music and you will see a new playlist. Songs will appear gradually as the shortcut completes its task. When you’re done, the shortcut will let you know if clean versions of a particular song couldn’t be found. All these unbeatable songs will be automatically removed from the new playlist.
Note: this shortcut is not perfect, the result should be checked. For example, Green Day has a single song called “Holiday/Boulevard of Broken Dreams”that combines two songs. Pure versions of these two titles are available individually, but not in this combination. In this case, you will need to add these songs individually by yourself.
Using the shortcut, it took me just under 5 minutes to convert a 70-song playlist to iPhone XS Max. Run times may vary if you have a different device and a smaller or larger playlist.
And if you want to do the opposite and turn an overly clean playlist into something more “adult”, try the “Make Dirty Playlist “shortcut. It’s the creation of the same user and works the same logic with opposite results.
