PC settings to fix stuttering, lagging and FPS drops in Callisto protocol

Launching a new game comes with the usual teething issues such as stuttering issues, missing skins, and online connection issues. Unfortunately, The Callisto Protocol PC players are facing issues with stuttering, lag, game freezing and frame rate drops. And in a survival game where every move is a matter of life and death, constant freezes or even crashes can be very frustrating. Here’s everything you can do to potentially fix it.

How to fix stuttering, lagging, freezing and FPS drops in Callisto protocol

This is a launch day issue because the reviews section of Steam now has “mostly negative”reviews, mostly due to stuttering issues. This slows down the performance of the game on the first day and hopefully the developers will release a patch to fix this soon.

Meanwhile, here are the settings that can help you reduce stuttering, lagging, freezing and frame rate drops in Callisto protocol. Thanks to Redditor u/callme_e for this tip!

  • Frame Rate Limit 60
  • Advanced Settings > Zoom Up > Amd Fsr 2
  • Motion Blur: Off
  • Depth of field: Off
  • Medium preset

Another user u/Squeezitgirdle using a 4k monitor with an RTX 4090 shared these settings:

  • Frame Rate Limit 60
  • FSR balanced
  • Motion Blur: Off
  • Depth of field: on
  • Shadow quality: high
  • Volume: high
  • Particle: High
  • Physical refractions: included
  • Ray Traced Shadows: Enabled
  • Ray Traced Reflections: Medium
  • Ray-traced transmission: enabled
  • Mesh Texture and Texture Filter Quality: High
  • AMD FSR 2 for scaling.

You can also turn off v-sync and see if that fixes the stuttering, lag, and freezing issues and improves FPS. Of course, this is not acceptable if you want to play the game with the best settings. Let’s wait for the post-release patch and see.

While these stutters, frame rate drops, and latency issues are related to the game itself, if you want to tweak a few things on your end, here’s what you can do:

  • Update your graphics drivers
  • Update the game to the latest version
  • Run the game as administrator
  • Verify the integrity of the game files on Steam. The game will be coming to Epic soon, so if you run into similar issues in the future, we’ve also mentioned the steps to verify game files for that platform.

How to Verify Game Files on Steam

  • Launch Steam.
  • Find TCP in your library.
  • Right-click the game and select Properties.
  • Find the “Local Files”tab.
  • Click “Verify Integrity of Game Files”.
  • After the process is complete, restart the game.

Check the game files in the Epic Games Store.

  • Launch the Epic Games Launcher.
  • Click on the game library.
  • Click TCP.
  • Select Settings.
  • Click Confirm.
  • Close the launcher, restart it and start the game again.
