While The Witcher won’t be returning to the small screen until next year, Netflix has already renewed the series for a fourth season and announced major changes. Both actors wrote about this on their social networks.

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with monsters and adventure and unfortunately I will have to return my locket and swords,” Henry Cavill wrote on Instagram. “In my place, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will take up the mantle of the White Wolf. Like all the best literary characters, I pass on the baton with reverence for my time playing Geralt and am thrilled to see Liam in all of these charming human nuances.”

Henry Cavill did not explain the reason for his departure. A few days ago, the actor confirmed that he would be returning to his Superman costume after his recent appearance in Black Adam. Netflix chose Henry Cavill to play Geralt of Rivia in 2018. In addition to giving the series its popularity, the actor brought something very authentic to the saga, which was felt every time he was asked about his role: “I feel a real connection with Geralt, who he is and his nature, and especially in books,” he told Polygon in 2019. “And being able to play the game for so, so many hours just strengthened that bond.”
Netflix has not announced a release date for the fourth season of The Witcher. Filming for the third season began a few months ago. During a recent Tudum event, the company revealed that the series will return sometime in the summer of 2023. Until then, fans can wait and watch the prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin starring Michelle Yeoh starting December 25th.
