Improve your browsing experience in Safari with automatic redirects

This extension allows you to add automatic redirects to your browser. Very simple and very useful in everyday life.

Working on the Internet is always risky. Some websites are almost impossible to visit due to pop-ups, ads, and other design bugs that pollute them. If you encounter these sites frequently, automatic redirects can help you navigate to a better site.

This extension allows you to add automatic redirects to your browser.

Sometimes the desktop versions of these sites have options that the mobile versions don’t have, you can make a redirect to automatically switch to the desktop version of any site automatically. In other cases, you may prefer to open the site in an application rather than in a browser. Or you can also automatically redirect the URL to remove paywalls from certain sites. In all these cases, you will need an extension for your browser.

For Safari on iOS and macOS, Redirect Web is a good option: it’s free for one or two redirect rules, and you can pay for unlimited rules all the time for $4.99. After downloading and installing this Safari extension, you can open it to set your rules. The operation is simple, but you will need to understand the basics to achieve it.

The simplest form of a redirect would be to change from one version of a site to another. For example, you can try to send all YouTube video links to an Invidious instance to remove tracking and add some functionality like the ability to download videos. So for this example, you need to enter https://youtube.com/* in the “Redirect from”field and https://vid.puffyan.us/$1 in the “Redirect to”(Redirect to) field. This will force all YouTube videos to use the Invidious site in Safari. The asterisk at the end of the YouTube rule redirects any URL that starts with https://youtube.com/*, and the $1 “inserts”anything after https://youtube.com/ to the redirected page.

Very simple and very useful in everyday life

As described above, this is the simplest type of rule, which will be enough for most users of this extension. If you have JavaScript knowledge, you will be able to create much more complex rules and customize this extension to suit all your needs. You can easily find many examples online and on the extension page.

If you have already purchased StopTheMadness (€5.99 for iOS, €7.99 for macOS), the app also has a redirect feature, as well as many other very useful features such as copy-paste on sites that prevent this.

You should also keep in mind that this redirect feature does not work if you have JavaScript disabled.
