How to speed up slow motion video on iPhone
It’s very easy to edit videos on iPhone. It is also possible to speed up the video or a separate part. Here’s how.
Slow motion is one of the coolest features of the iPhone camera. By shooting at a high frame rate and playing video at a lower frame rate, slow motion helps to highlight multiple frames. But you may need to speed up the video a bit so that the slow motion takes less time or matches the speed of the rest of the video more.
How to do it with the Photos app
Luckily, there is an easy way to speed up slow motion video on your iPhone. You don’t need any third party tool for this, just use the Photos app’s own editor. Here’s how:
- Open the Photos app on your iPhone.
- Find the video you want to speed up and tap to open it.
- Click on the “Edit”button in the upper right corner.
- Click the “Speed”button at the bottom of the screen. This brings up a button for settings. There are two types of vertical stripes; smaller ones next to each other reflect normal video speed. The larger ones further away indicate the unit that has been slowed down.
- To increase speed, move one of the two large lines to the other to close the gap. If you don’t want to remove the entire slow motion effect, simply move the path to where you want to slow down the video.
- Finally, click the “Done”button in the top right corner to save.
How to do it with iMovie on iPhone
The iPhone does not have a built-in tool to speed up “regular”videos. Therefore, it is necessary to use third-party software in the App Store. One option: Apple’s free iMovie app. The process is similar:
- Download and install iMovie on your iPhone.
- Click “Create Project”in the “Projects”menu of the application.
- In the New Project tab, select Movie.
- Select a video to edit in your gallery and click “Create Movie”at the bottom of the screen.
- iMovie will add the video to the timeline. Click on the clip and then select the speedometer icon from the tools menu.
- You should see a slider above the speedometer icon. Turtle on one side, hare on the other. To speed up, move the slider to the right, towards the hare.
- Click “Done”in the top right corner to save the project.
Remember that video acceleration affects audio. If this happens, you will need to remove the audio or use a different audio track.
How to do with InShot on iPhone
Another app you can use is InShot. Whether you want professional-style videos or need extra features, this is the perfect tool. Here’s how:
- Download InShot from the App Store and launch it.
- Select “Video”on the main page, then click “Create”to create a project.
- Select the video you want to speed up and tap the checkmark at the bottom of the screen to import it.
- Tap the imported video on the timeline to select it, scroll the tools menu to the right until you see the speedometer icon.
- On the Standard tab, move the slider to increase the video speed. If you only want to zoom in on part of the video, go to the Curve tab and use the blue dots to adjust the curve. You can click “Preset”in the top menu to select a preset curve according to your desires.
- If you’re slowing down a part, use the Smoothing feature to reduce distortion and create smooth transitions between frames.
- Check the “Original Pitch”circle to avoid sound distortion when adjusting the speed.
- When you’re done, tap the checkmark, then tap the “Export”button in the top right corner to save the video to your gallery.
You can also use CapCut to speed up videos on your iPhone. The app offers the same features as InShot and the process is very similar.
