Record your own morning alarm on your Google Pixel

Custom sounds, the whole story on Android. On Pixel devices, Google has made it much easier to work through the Clock app.

How do you like to wake up in the morning? Classic alarm clock on your smartphone? Maybe a special song to start the day on the right foot? Or maybe none of this really works and you have to turn off your alarm or alarms one by one, day after day. Who knows, you might need a slightly more personal solution. Then the best alarm clock will be the alarm clock that you recorded yourself.

Custom sounds, whole story on Android

As we can learn from the XDA Developers forums, Google has rolled out a new feature in its Clock app that allows you to record custom sounds for any alarm. If you want to wake up and hear you scream “Get up!”or that you need an alarm clock that says “Stop playing console and get on the bus!”to remind you it’s time to go, you can do it. You also don’t need to use your own voice: record the help you want from the source you want and create the perfect alarm or wake-up call for you.

Maybe you already do. Android allows you to use your own alarm sounds, so it was always possible to record your own sounds. However, things have never been easy. XDA resembles a process that asks you to record a sound in a third party app, add it to your Alarms folder using a file manager and if done correctly you will see the sound and be able to select it via “Add New”in the “Alarm Sounds”and “Timer Sounds”of the Clock app. Doable, of course, but not entirely intuitive.

How to Record Your Own Sounds on Pixel

All you need is a Google Pixel with Clock app version 7.3. After installing this version or later, you will see the “Record New”option on the “Alarm Sounds”and “Timer Sounds”pages. Click on it and the Recorder app will open allowing you to record whatever you want. When you’re done, you’ll see your sound in Recorded Sounds and you can select it for any alarm or clock.

Unfortunately, Google hasn’t added this feature to the Clock app for other Android devices, most likely because it depends on the Pixel’s Recorder app. In any case, if you have the Recorder app on your phone via a custom ROM, this feature should show up.
