Valve has no intention of offering games exclusively for its Steam Deck, as its console was designed to emulate a PC.

One of the ways game console manufacturers can attract and retain gamers is by offering exclusive games for their platform. For example, Microsoft has licenses like Halo, Sony like God of War and Nintendo like Mario. As Valve prepares to launch its Steam Deck in 2022, it’s logical to ask if the company intends to follow the same path as other manufacturers.

Valve does not intend to offer games exclusively for its Steam Deck.

And if the IGN report is to be believed, the answer is simple: no. The information was confirmed by Valve during the Steamworks Steam Deck event. In particular, it was said that the company is not interested in any developers creating exclusives for Steam Deck. The company explains that since the Steam Deck was designed and engineered to mimic a PC, games should be available on the machine just like any PC.

Obviously there are some games designed specifically for PC and not for consoles, but they shouldn’t necessarily be considered “exclusive”as long as the PC is qualified, you can play it. It’s not like the consoles you’ll need to purchase said console with in order to play console-exclusive games. Either way, this is good news for gamers who may be worried about developers making games that will be reserved for Steam Deck.

For those who don’t know, a Steam Deck is essentially a portable console that allows you to play games from your Steam library. That is, if you already have games on Steam, they should work on Steam Deck and you don’t have to redeem them.
