Apple M2 MacBook Air and M2 MacBook Pro with 13-inch screen may arrive later this year

Apple recently wrapped up an Apple event where it unveiled the new iPhone SE 5G and Mac Studio. The latter comes with the M1 Ultra chip, which combines the power of two M1 Max chips into one. It looks like Apple has finally finished updating its M1 chip line. While the Mac Pro is set to get the M1 Ultra chip, Apple will likely release new M2 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models soon.

A new report from 9to5Mac claims entry-level MacBooks will ship with next-generation Apple Silicon. While the report doesn’t explicitly mention a launch date, it does say the laptops will launch later this year. Let’s take a look at the leaked specs and specs of the Apple M2 MacBook Pro, MacBook Air.

Apple MacBook Pro, MacBook Air with M2

Apple may introduce its new M2 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models later this year. The M2 chip will be slightly more powerful than the M1 chip. However, reports claim that despite being a newer generation, the M2 chip will be below the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips in terms of power and efficiency. Apple will eventually introduce high-performance versions of the new M2 chip, such as the M2 Pro, to be used in the company’s line of desktops and laptops.

The new M2 chip will be used in the entry-level MacBook Pro as well as the MacBook Air. While details about the chip remain scarce, the report does state that the Pro laptop has model number J493. The 13-inch MacBook Pro will have the same design as the currently available model. Apple is also reportedly considering dropping the “Pro”moniker for the upcoming model. Therefore, the company can simply launch it as a MacBook.

The MacBook Air, on the other hand, will have a new design. Codenamed Stalen, the machine has model number J413. It will come in several new color options, just like the 24-inch iMac. It will keep the size of a 13-inch screen and be surrounded by a thick white border around it. The keyboard layout is also white, rather than the traditional black we’ve seen on MacBooks in the past. More details about the laptops should appear online in the coming days.

It won’t be a surprise if Apple announces the new M2 chip along with the said MacBooks at Apple’s WWDC 2022 event, which could take place in June or July 2022.
