iPhone SE 5G 2022 may launch on March 8 along with updated iPad Air

It’s been over six months since Apple announced the iPhone 13 series, and there have been rumors that the company’s next iPhone SE model is ready to launch. Now Bloomberg is reporting that the new version of the iPhone SE or iPhone SE 2022 will be released on March 8 this year or so. The report comes from Mark Gurman, who has been known to be accurate in his reports on Apple’s future plans in the past. Earlier reports have also indicated that Apple may be planning to release a new iPad alongside the new iPhone SE.

2022 Apple iPhone SE Specifications

To be sure, Apple has been releasing new products between April and March for the past few years. The company released the 2020 version of the iPhone SE around April 24 of that year. It’s worth noting that Bloomberg sources also said that Apple’s plans could be changed right now due to potential manufacturing issues. In its earnings call last month, the company warned that a global chip shortage could affect iPhone and iPad production for at least a few more months.

The iPhone SE is generally seen as an iPhone aimed at those who want a cheaper and more compact iPhone. Last year’s iPhone SE had the same design as the iPhone 8, and it’s possible that the company will follow the same design this year. Apple will of course be using a faster processor this year, and 5G connectivity should be coming as well.

Updated Apple iPad Air in development

In addition, the Bloomberg report also states that Apple may use the launch event to launch an updated version of the iPad Air. While it didn’t go into too much detail, the updated iPad Air is expected to support 5G connectivity and have a faster chipset. At the moment, the company has yet to put its new M1 chip on the iPad Air, so it’s possible that Apple will go down that path right now. However, this will make the iPad Air almost indistinguishable from the iPad Pro and could jeopardize sales of Apple’s flagship tablet.
