A Resident Evil 4 remake is reportedly in development and will be unveiled later this year

Back in 2020, rumors started circulating that Capcom was apparently looking to remake Resident Evil 4, arguably the most beloved entry in the series. New reports suggest the game is close to being revealed sometime in 2022.

VGC and Fanbyte are reporting that Capcom is working on the game and that the studio wants to make some changes to the classic game’s tone. According to a new report from Fanbyte, the development team wants to make changes, such as the opening sequence taking place at night instead of during the day in the original.

Capcom has had great success with the Resident Evil franchise on the back of two great remakes and two well-received sequels. So it only makes sense to keep the momentum going and get back to the well with one of the most loved games of all time.

Resident Evil 4 remake may be different from the original

The old adage usually goes like this: “Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke,”but a remake gives a new, fresh team an opportunity to try the winning formula and maybe make a difference. Resident Evil 4 is considered by many to be the quintessential survival horror game that influenced many third-person shooters.

It is believed to be the first game to feature the over-the-shoulder camera that has become commonplace in shooters today. Capcom was able to go back to previous games in the series and make changes that were positively received by fans, such as an improved Mr X in RE 2: Remake.

It will be interesting to see how far Capcom decides to stray from the original, and whether this will be the last remake in the series, or whether Capcom will make another attempt at the ill-fated RE5 and 6.
