Vivo X80 launch: Five reasons you might want to buy this phone

Smartphones of the Vivo X80 series are now officially presented. The company has just launched the Vivo X80 Pro and the vanilla Vivo X80. If you’re looking to buy a premium phone, the Vivo X80 might be worth your money, and in this article, we’ll walk you through five reasons why you might want to buy this phone.

As we’ve seen on the latest generation X series phones, the Vivo X80 also shines when it comes to camera performance and design. The phone also has improved fast charging capabilities and other improvements over the Vivo X70. With a base price of $709, the Vivo X80 will compete with the likes of the OnePlus 10 Pro, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Realme GT 2. Let’s take a look at five top reasons why you should consider the Vivo X80.

Processor MediaTek Dimensity 9000

Vivo X80 is the first smartphone based on the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor. The chipset is based on a 4nm process technology and is equipped with an X2 main core clocked at 3.05GHz, as well as three high-performance Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.85GHz. There are four efficient cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It is paired with a Mali-710 GPU. Apart from impressive SoC views, Vivo X80 delivers one of the best performance when it comes to day to day operations including heavy tasks like gaming. The phones run smoothly and most importantly, the phone doesn’t get hot, which was a problem with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

50MP Triple Camera

When it comes to the Vivo X range, cameras have always been one of the main selling points of the device. Vivo X80 is no different. In terms of specs, the phone features a 50MP (Sony IMX866, f/1.75) main camera with OIS, a 12MP (f/2.0) ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP (f/1.98) telephoto lens. For selfies, the phone has a 32-megapixel sensor with an f/2.45 aperture. The phone also features the Vivo V1+ chip to enhance camera performance, developed by Zeiss.

Vivo X80 Pro launches on May 18 in India. I can’t comment on anything because of the embargo. But as they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words.”#vivoX80Series pic.twitter.com/cXAlRdX5Mc

Images sampled from phones look great with true-to-life colors (with AI turned off) and high dynamic range. The portrait images taken with the Vivo X80 are also some of the best we’ve seen, and when it comes to low-light photography, the X80 outshines every other device in the segment. If you’re buying the Vivo X80 just for the camera, you won’t be disappointed at all.

120Hz AMOLED display

The Vivo X80 offers a flat 6.78-inch Full HD+ E5 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 1000 nits. The screen gets bright enough to read in direct sunlight, and thanks to the AMOLED panel and high contrast ratio, blacks on the phone look pitch dark, and you’ll enjoy watching content on the device and, of course, playing games. The 120Hz refresh rate makes the phone’s user interface and animations smooth. The device also supports HDR10+ content.

80W FlashCharge

While 80W isn’t the fastest charging technology we’ve seen in 2022, Vivo’s 80W wired fast charging is still capable of charging a device from 0 to 100% in just 30 minutes, which is still impressive. What’s even more impressive is that the device comes with an 80W charging adapter in the box, which disappears into the premium segment. The 4500 mAh battery can charge up to 70% in just 20 minutes, which is at least half a day if not a full day for most. However, there is no support for wireless charging.

Outstanding Design

Apart from the cameras, one of the key features of the Vivo X series is the design. The Vivo X80 comes in two color options: Urban Blue and Cosmic Black Matte. Both options have matte backs and those colors look amazing, especially in Urban Blue. While most phones come with a large camera bump on the back, the Vivo X80 offers a large camera module on the back and inside you get a round module that houses the triple rear cameras and Zeiss branding. On the front, the phone has a camera with a hole in the center and thin bezels. Overall, the design really stands out from the crowd thanks to the unique color option and the large camera module.

Vivo X80 against competitors

The Vivo X80 starts at Rs 54,999 and the phone clearly outperforms competitors such as Xiaomi 12 Pro and OnePlus 10 Pro. The Vivo X80 offers a superb camera setup, however it lacks the high-resolution display and ultra-fast charging that both Xiaomi and OnePlus flagships offer. But these flagships cost at least $103 – $141 more than the Vivo X80. Given the price difference and more versatile camera setup, the Vivo X80 seems like a great premium device.
