The Magic Leap 2 headset finally has a specific release date. Conceived and designed for business, this headset debuted last year as part of an early access program. However, from September 30, anyone can buy it. Magic Leap 2 will be available in three versions, the most affordable of which is the basic version, aimed at professionals and developers who just want to work with augmented reality. It can be used for full commercial and production deployments and will cost $3,299 with a one-year warranty.

Developers working on AR applications who need a headset for testing will likely need to purchase the Developer Pro edition, which has “access to developer tools, sample projects, enterprise features, and access to monthly development and testing builds.”However, the company does not allow customers to use them for commercial deployment and in production environments. The Developer Pro version will cost $4,099.

Finally, the Enterprise version is for customers who are looking for a headset with many enterprise features and intend to use it for large scale deployments. This edition will cost $4,999 with two-year access to enterprise features as well as quarterly releases. Unlike the other two options, the Enterprise edition comes with a two-year warranty.

Because these headsets are designed for business use and prices are more than double those of the first generation, the company doesn’t expect big sales. The first Magic Leap of that name sold only 6,000 copies in its first months of existence. The Information then reported that company founder Roni Abovitz told investors he expected to sell 1 million units in the first year before admitting that 100,000 was a more realistic number. Due to weak sales and the pandemic in 2020, the company finally had to part with half of the payroll.

Magic Leap 2 will also be available in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Saudi Arabia on the same day. Until the end of the year, Japan and Singapore will also be able to use it.
