iPhone 14 is said to be more expensive than iPhone 13 due to new selfie camera
The Apple iPhone 14 is expected to be released later this year. The company’s next-generation smartphone series could include the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, and the new iPhone 14 Max. At the moment, the company is unlikely to release a successor to the iPhone 13 Mini. According to a new report, these upcoming iPhones will have a major camera upgrade, which will likely result in a more expensive camera module.
According to a report from ETNews, a Korean website, Apple is changing its camera supply management for front-facing cameras. On the iPhone 14 series, the company plans to install the LG Innotek product. The report says that Apple will install a South Korean selfie camera product for the first time.
iPhone 14 could be more expensive
The report also states that Apple originally planned to include the LG Innotek selfie camera in the iPhone 15, which is scheduled to launch in late 2023. Since the unnamed Chinese camera maker had some quality issues, Apple decided to take the step.
For a long time, the main suppliers of the front camera for the iPhone were a company from China and Japanese Sharp. Typically, iPhone front camera parts cost one third of the unit price of the main camera. However, this time around, as Apple is considering a major upgrade to the camera, it is said to cost more.
Apple plans to add advanced features to the selfie camera, such as autofocus and more, which is said to increase the price of the camera by three times compared to previous models. As camera prices go up, we can also expect the iPhone 14 series to pick up as well. Although the news comes from unverified sources, for now, it looks like LG Innotek and Sharp will be the suppliers of the selfie camera for the iPhone 14.
The iPhone 13 was released starting at $799 in the US. It will be interesting to see how the iPhone 14 will be priced.
