AltStore and AltServer have been updated to version 1.6 with several new features and bug fixes.

If you regularly download apps to your iPhone or iPad and use AltStore to do so, you might be interested in the latest updates for AltServer and AltStore, which were updated to version 1.6 on Monday.

Announced via Twitter on Monday afternoon, AltServer and AltStore version 1.6 adds important new features that allow the software to take advantage of Apple’s latest iPhone, iPad and macOS updates. But more than that, they make the software more fun to use.

Starting with AltStore, the iPhone and iPad app we use to download non-published apps, version 1.6 contains the following changes:

  • A new lock screen widget for iOS 16 that counts down to AltStore expiration and is available in two different styles.
  • The new error log, which shows past errors in more detail, allows users to click on an error code to view more information about it, search for the error code directly in the AltStore FAQ, and access the new Techy Things option in Settings.
  • iOS version compatibility improvements: check iOS compatibility between app updates and installations, confirm that you want to update or install an app if it’s not officially supported in your version, view unsupported updates in the My Apps tab.
  • Completely redesigned error handling to make debugging easier, modified error messages to be more useful to end users by including additional information.
  • Miscellaneous updates such as: update on demand to check for updates, support for a new “versions”key in the original JSON, and support for updating applications from the application details page.
  • Fixed an issue where the “More”button was displayed by mistake on the app details pages.
  • Fix widgets that potentially don’t update or update apps.
  • Fix the incorrect app name and iOS version in the “unsupported iOS version”error message.
  • Fix incorrect color of error notification popup on login failure

Similarly, AltServer, the macOS and Windows program used to download unpublished apps on iPhone and iPad, has been updated to version 1.6 with the following changes:

  • Error handling has been completely redesigned to include as much information as possible, which should make it easier to debug certain issues.
  • Revised error messages to be more descriptive and include useful suggestions.
  • Details button on error alerts to view additional information about a specific error.
  • Search for the error code directly in the AltStore FAQ
  • Checks iOS or iPadOS compatibility before installing AltStore and downloading the latest version
  • Fixed occasional crash when receiving requests from AltStore.
  • Fix installation warnings showing “iPhone”instead of the actual device name.
  • CodableError Int/Uint user info values ​​encoding error fixed.

Both of these updates are readily available to users. To update AltStore, simply open the app on your iPhone or iPad and you should see an update option. If you are updating AltServer, you can use the “Check for Updates…”option in the menu bar on macOS or the taskbar on Windows.
