Anonymous claims that a monstrous traffic jam has formed in Moscow

About the monstrous traffic jam in the Filevsky district of Moscow, said Anonymous. The group used the Yandex Taxi taxi app.

A few days ago, a huge traffic jam formed in the Filevsky district of Moscow, a traffic jam like never before. Motherboard reports that hackers used the taxi ordering app Yandex Taxi to order dozens of drivers to cover Kutuzovsky Prospekt, one of the city’s most important thoroughfares. This resulted in a huge increase in traffic in an area that was already always congested. It was in complete stagnation for about 40 minutes before Yandex managed to restore the situation.

Anonymous announced a monstrous traffic jam in the Filevsky district of Moscow

“On the morning of September 1, an attempt was made by hackers to disrupt the service on Yandex-Taxi – several dozen drivers received orders for the Filevsky district of Moscow,” Yandex explained to Maternalskaya. In a separate statement released by the Russian news agency TASS, Yandex said it had overhauled its routing algorithm after the attack to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future. This event is one of the first cases known to date of hackers using a taxi app to create a traffic jam.

Several Twitter accounts claiming any connection to Anonymous claim that the group is behind the incident. Anonymous reported this Friday that it was working with Ukraine’s IT Army, a volunteer organization set up earlier this year, to carry out the attack.

Always ready to help, Anonymous previously claimed responsibility for a cyberattack that took down many Russian government websites, including those of the Kremlin and the Ministry of Defense. “Faced with this series of attacks that Ukraine has suffered from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, there is nothing we can do but help the Ukrainian people,” the team said at the time.
