Apple Music is finally coming to Tesla

Apple Music is finally coming to Tesla

It looks like Tesla has implemented Apple Music support in the infotainment unit of their cars. This feature is likely to be launched commercially via a future software update.

  • What is happening? A fan spotted a fully functional Model S with Apple Music integration that appears to be available through the car’s infotainment system. The car was on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
  • Why care? Tesla car owners have been asking for Apple Music support, but so far to no avail. But Tesla wouldn’t just integrate Apple Music into a show car, right? We hope that this integration will be officially launched soon.
  • What to do? You have a Tesla, don’t you?

Looks like Apple Music is coming to Tesla cars

Tesla fan Aaron Cash was lucky enough to spot this obvious integration during his visit to the Petersen Automotive Museum. In the video posted on Aaron’s Twitter, you can clearly see the Apple Music icon on the infotainment display.

Touching the icon launches a screen with a QR code that must be scanned by the iPhone’s camera to authorize Apple Music. The process looks legitimate and it seems to be a working feature, although Aaron didn’t go beyond the QR code screen.

Given that other apps on the car’s infotainment display, including games and maps, ran like clockwork, it’s safe to assume that Apple Music was integrated with Tesla vehicles. This may be beta or unfinished code.

When will Tesla launch Apple Music integration?

Luckily, Aaron checked the About Software section and was able to confirm that the model S shown is running software version 11.0 with development version set to 2022.40.50.

By comparison, the current version of Tesla’s delivery software is 2022.40. So there you have it, Apple Music integration is definitely coming to Tesla vehicles soon.

The release of the Apple Music integration is a marketing decision at this stage.

In 2021, Tesla released a holiday update with several new features such as a customizable app launcher and an improved blind spot camera.

If history repeats itself, then Tesla owners could get Apple Music integration as an early Christmas present. The only downside to this news is that Apple Music integration seems to require Tesla’s $10/month Premium Connectivity package.
