Apple is calling WWDC 2023, which runs from June 5-9, “a very special event.”

WWDC 2023 will run from June 5-9 as an online event, and Apple is calling it a “very special event.”There will also be an in-person event on the opening day.

  • What’s happening? Apple will be hosting its 34th annual developer conference, or WWDC, from June 5 to 9, 2023 online.
  • Why care? Apple announces the following major versions of its software platforms. This year, however, Apple’s headset is rumored to be showcased at WWDC.
  • What to do? Go to the Apple Developer website for full details.

WWDC23 will take place June 5-9 as Apple’s online event.

The biggest question this year is: will there be any hardware announcements? We can only speculate about this – of course, you don’t expect Apple to spoil the surprises it might have up its sleeve. WWDC focuses on software, but some products like the MacBook Air debuted at the show, so they have priority.

The wording of Apple’s announcement suggests something special, as Apple’s Susan Prescott called the 34th annual conference the biggest and most exciting.

“We can’t wait to see so many of you online and in person at this very special event,”she was quoted as saying in an announcement posted to Apple Newsroom.

I don’t remember the company calling any WWDC a special event. It was as if Prescott stopped short of saying “augmented reality headset.”

WWDC23 will be streamed live

Apple holds its developer pilgrimage once a year in the summer, usually in June. Due to Covid disruptions, WWDC in 2020, 2021 and 2022 were online events. Contrary to expectations, WWDC23 will be an online event that anyone can follow on the Apple website, TV app, and Apple Developer app.

Will there be headset news at WWDC23?

This is the biggest question related to WWDC23. To be honest, we can only guess because this thing has been delayed so many times that another delay wouldn’t surprise us. Be that as it may, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said technical issues prompted Apple to delay the headset’s launch until WWDC 2023.

In addition to the headset, the rumors also mention the possibility of an Apple Silicon Mac Pro and a new 15-inch MacBook Air being unveiled during the keynote.

WWDC23 keynote and state of the art

The keynote and country reports will show the most important news of the conference, that’s for sure. The keynote address will take place on the morning of June 5, and an address to Congress is scheduled for the first half of the day.

The keynote, intended for the general public, is where Apple talks about new features coming to iOS 17, iPadOS 17, tvOS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS 14.0. State of the Union is much more technical and dives deep into the achievements of the platform.

The keynote and all sessions will be pre-recorded and streamed online. Like last year, the event will take place offline as developers and students will be able to attend a special event at Apple Park on opening day. To learn how to apply, visit developer.apple.com/wwdc23/special-event.

Quick Student Challenge

As in previous years, this year WWDC will host the traditional Apple Swift Student Challenge. Students from all over the world can submit their work to the Swift Playgrounds on topics of their choice. Applications for participation in this year’s competition are already open, and students can submit their work until April 19.
