Apple soft launches new Platoon for Artists app after acquisition in 2018
Apple is a company that makes many acquisitions on a semi-regular basis. And when a company picks up another one, the question always arises: what will they do with it? Whether Apple is looking to add some talent to its already impressive teams, or it’s due to its patents, or even an app or service that Apple thinks can support its own business, there’s always a finale. But sometimes it takes some time before this result finally sees the light of day.
Take, for example, the acquisition of London-based Platoon, which at the time called itself a platform for “exceptional independent artists.”This is likely still the case, as the company has largely operated independently even after the acquisition was completed. But now Apple can say it finally has something to show off, this time in the form of a new app.
The company has officially launched a brand new app called Platoon for Artists, which allows independent artists to not only promote their work, but also see revenue collected, drill down into specific analytics, and more. Apple describes it like this:
Manage your career
Managing an artist’s career has never been easier. Platoon for Artists is your home to manage content, streams, revenue and more.
Apple is listed as the developer of the app, and it’s compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
As 9to5Mac originally pointed out, Apple released the app to the App Store yesterday. However, it’s not being promoted openly on the digital store yet, and it’s not on the list either. For artists who were previously registered with Platoon, the app will work if they sign in to the new app. However, the only way to create a new account is to receive an invitation to join. At the time of publication, it is not known when the application may become available to all users.
If you want to check it out and are already a Platoon user, you can download Platoon for Artists from the direct link.
