Apple releases iOS 12.5.6 with important security fixes for older iPhones and iPads
While we wait for the launch of iOS 16 later this year, there are older devices that cannot run newer versions of the mobile operating system. However, they still require important security/software updates from time to time. That’s why Apple is releasing the new version of iOS 12.5 to the general public.
Apple today released iOS 12.5.6 to the public, which is specifically designed for older iPhones and iPads that cannot be updated to iOS 13 (or even newer versions). The update itself is focused on security and may be closely related to the iOS 15.6.1 update released by the company not too long ago.
If so, then iOS 12.5.6 should be installed as soon as possible for those with older iOS/iPadOS devices. Unfortunately, Apple only states that “this update contains important security updates and is recommended for all users.”Sure, that’s not a lot, but given how important the iOS 15.6.1 update was, it’s probably just as important.
The update process is the same as usual: Open “Settings”-> “General”-> “Software Update”. After that, just follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the new software on your devices.
The update is free and available now.
