Apple Watch Series 8 can tell if you have a fever. The rest of the changes will be minor.

The next Apple Watch may have a body temperature sensor that will notify you when you have a fever. At least that’s what Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says. The Series 8 doesn’t offer a very accurate reading of this health data, but it can send a notification that advises you to see a doctor or use a thermometer to confirm a suspicion.

This is not the first time that Mark Gurman mentions the possibility of including such a temperature sensor in the Series 8. The journalist first mentioned that the Cupertino-based company was working on such a feature in June 2021, saying at the time that the option might only appear on Apple’s 2022 connected watch lineup. However, a few months later, in January, he retracted his claim, warning his followers that blood sugar monitoring was one of the features that would not appear for several years.

However, a few months later, Mark Gurman announced that the Series 8 would have a body temperature sensor, provided, of course, that its implementation passed internal testing by the Cupertino company. Today, in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, he says he’s convinced the feature is “good”for integrating the Series 8 and a model that’s increasingly rumored, a version beefed up for extreme athletes.

Mark Gurman also explains that other Series 8 changes are “likely to be minor.”He repeats his report from last week, suggesting the smartwatch will have the same processing power as the Series 7 and Series 6. He also mentions that high-end Series 8 models could benefit from an improved screen.

Another product that doesn’t deserve major improvements is the second generation AirPods Pro. Mark Gurman explains that they will not be eligible for heart rate or body temperature monitoring, as some reports suggested. “I was told that none of these features would appear in the 2022 release, although the company has explored these possibilities and may arrive one day.”
