Apple Allegedly Hired Meta’s Director of Augmented Reality Communications

Apple would have poached Andrea Schubert, Meta’s director of communications for augmented reality. His role in the Cupertino company is not specified.

Facebook is one of the major players in the VR market, thanks in part to its Oculus offering. And if the company recently renamed itself Meta, it is precisely to emphasize its intention to plunge headlong into these virtual and augmented realities and build its own metaverse.

Apple would have poached Andrea Schubert, director of augmented reality communications at Meta.

In doing so, it appears that Apple has managed to convince one of Meta’s top executives to join the Cupertino-based company. At least that’s what it says in the latest edition of Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter. The journalist reports that the apple brand would poach PR director for Meta augmented reality, Andrea Schubert.

His role in the Cupertino company has not been clarified.

Mark Gurman does not specify what role Andrea Schubert will play at Apple, but the fact that she had a position in Meta’s augmented reality department suggests she could play a similar role at Cupertino. There have been rumors lately about a mixed reality headset that is in development at Apple and could launch as early as next year.

There have been reports from here and there for years that the Apple brand is developing its own mixed reality headset, and we may even see Apple release a pair of augmented reality glasses one day. For some, they may even replace the iPhone entirely in the long run. In any case, this is a huge challenge for the Cupertino company, if, of course, this information is correct. Other companies such as Google have tried unsuccessfully to sell similar products in the past. It will be very interesting to see if Apple succeeds where the Mountain View firm failed.
