The Wallpapers of the Week collection brings you incredible photo-quality backgrounds every Sunday. Our collection covers many genres, but the most popular are original Apple wallpapers or those inspired by real Apple images.

This collection of “Aqueux”wallpapers for OS X combines both of those sub-genres with OS X Aqua-inspired stunning macOS X designs for iPad.

Many people were excited to see the original clownfish wallpaper for iOS appear in the iOS 16 betas. It caused quite a stir among Apple fans. Given that excitement, this collection pays homage to earlier versions of OS X.

Aqueux is based on Aqua, the OS X GUI and design language that was first introduced in the Mac OS X public beta, Kodiak. Initial release took place on January 6, 2000. Jobs noted in the introduction, “… it’s liquid, one of the designs: when you saw it, you wanted to lick it.”

Taking one of the original Aqua wallpapers from OS X 10.4 Tiger, Hector Simpson @dizzyup mixed the Tiger wallpaper with the new OS X and macOS stock wallpapers. As shown below, you’ll see gradient versions of Tiger from Leopard, Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, Sierra, Monterey, and the latest macOS Ventura.

Below are iPad versions of images that can be used for even the largest iPhone Max devices.

As a bonus, the following versions also borrow from the original Tiger images, but offer morning, afternoon, and night gradients. These sunrise to sunset gradients are great for your home screen or lock screen.

His own gallery has special iPhone-sized options. If you like these designs, you can get the 6K desktop version, which even changes dynamically throughout the day. This is not an advertisement, mind you. I decided to pay the minimum amount for an incredible collection. If you treat the dynamic versions as static images that you can download individually after purchase, there are 47 images in the total collection.

Thanks to @BasicAppleGuy for the tip about today’s downloads. You too can influence the iDB wallpaper gallery by contacting me via @jim_g r esham. Keep an eye out for mid-week downloads, peaks of upcoming posts, and general Apple banter as we head into hardware season.
