Ken Block is a household name among extreme sports enthusiasts. And today the American is ready to switch to an electric car, of course with the help of Audi.

Therefore, Ken Block’s Gymkhana series is ready for the transition to electricity. A few days ago, the rally driver unveiled his new Audi S1 Hoonitron, an electric vehicle designed specifically for him. Audi hasn’t shared any technical details about this prototype, but as you can see in the photo above, it takes a number of design cues from the iconic Sport Quattro S1. And this is no coincidence, it is even a real symbol: the Sport Quattro S1 is the car that inspired Ken Block on his career.

The driver promised to show everything that this electric car is capable of in an upcoming video called Elektrikhana. It’s hard to say if Travis Pastrana will join the adventure in a custom Subaru Solterra. If you’ve never had a chance to watch one of these Gymkhana videos, don’t hesitate. You will be able to experience the very best in terms of piloting precision, truly impressive feats. The S1 Hoonitron is set to fundamentally change Ken Block’s approach to his series.
Indeed, the instantaneous torque of an electric car should help during the constant drifting we find in the Gymkhana videos. The significantly lower center of gravity should also play a big role in allowing the car to hold onto the road better. On the other hand, one thing will have to be seen: will the S1 Hoonitron be able to reproduce the sound that a rev limiter makes in a traditional internal combustion engine? After all, noise is very important when you watch this sport.
