Belkin releases the world’s first Apple-certified MagSafe-based car charger

If you’ve been patient enough to wait for a real 15W MagSafe-enabled iPhone charging cradle for your car, then this is your lucky day, because Belkin just opened up pre-orders for such an accessory today.

Belkin is calling its new product the BOOST CHARGE PRO Wireless Car Charger with MagSafe, and it’s currently available for pre-order on Apple’s website for $99.95. Belkin also says it’s the world’s first and only certified threaded MagSafe vent mount.

On closer inspection, the product resembles Belkin’s non-charging MagSafe Car Vent Mount from a long time ago. It currently costs around $40 and the biggest consumer complaint about this product was that it was just a mount and not a charger. The new Belkin BOOST CHARGE PRO Wireless Car Charger eliminates this problem but more than doubles the cost.

Be that as it may, Belkin is a trusted partner with Apple and uses actual licensed MagSafe chargers in its products, compared to simple Qi wireless chargers with MagSafe-style magnets, as many third-party manufacturers do. The biggest difference in this regard is that you only get Qi wireless charging speeds up to 7.5W, which is half the peak MagSafe 15W charging speed. Thus, the price is justified if you prefer a higher performance product.

The BOOST CHARGE PRO Wireless Car Charger supports both landscape and portrait mounting of your iPhone, and because it attaches directly to the air vent, it provides the cooling effect of your car’s air conditioner when in direct sunlight or during intense activities such as like navigation.

While pre-orders start today, Belkin’s new MagSafe car charger won’t ship until November 14 at the earliest.

Please note that, like all other MagSafe-based products, the Belkin BOOST CHARGE PRO Wireless Car Charger with MagSafe is only compatible with the iPhone 12 line and later.
