BeReal snorts when you take a screenshot
BeReal and his weird screenshot management strategy. The app knocks when someone takes a screenshot.
Taking a screenshot of someone else’s BeReal can have consequences. The app doesn’t tell you, which puts it on par with apps like Instagram, but while most BeReal users don’t know it, the app tells you when someone takes a screenshot of one of your content. You may never know unless it happens to you.
BeReal and his weird screenshot management strategy
If someone takes a screenshot of your BeReal, you will be notified. This information is not materialized by a notification or alert from within the app – this is not Snapchat – but when you return to your last BeReal after someone has taken a picture, you will see a new icon displayed: a square with a number inside indicating the number of screenshots your BeReal has taken for now.
You can also see the number of captures made if you click on your BeReal, as well as other data such as the number of RealMoji reactions as well as the popularity of your BeReal.
If you click on this new icon or on the number of shots, BeReal will explain that someone took a screenshot of your post and make you an offer: share your BeReal with another app and you can see who is taking the photo. However, you do not need to share your BeReal with anyone else. Just trick the app into thinking you did it. It is enough to send it to you in a message or email to reveal the name of the person in question.
The app knocks when someone takes a screenshot
Here’s a way to manage screenshots, which are pretty…fun. Other apps like Snapchat notify you instantly when someone decides to save your photo. But BeReal seems to want to turn screenshot notifications into a growth strategy. The company wants you to share your BeReal with other users every time someone takes a screenshot of your post, which increases the chances of new users entering the platform.
That being said, it’s a rather odd strategy given the fact that you’re not required to share your post with anyone but yourself, which is against the company’s policies and goals. On the other hand, BeReal does not mention this feature. Someone needs to take a screenshot of your BeReal before you know about this feature. And even then, the icon used is so subtle that you can easily miss it.
