OtterBox Wireless Charging Battery Swollen
OtterBox replaces OtterSpot Wireless Charging Batteries free of charge after a bloating problem is identified.
The OtterSpot wireless charging system is powered by a 36W charging pad that can be used for Qi wireless charging, and you can install up to two 10W, 5000mAh OtterSpot batteries on top to charge them for use on the go.
But you should double check the serial numbers of your battery packs before using them.
Roughly two and a half years after the release of OtterSpot, OtterBox now says batteries can swell “under multilayer build conditions and higher temperatures,”The Verge reported on Thursday. The OtterBox support page refers to the issue as a “component defect”.
An OtterBox spokesperson told The Verge that the only devices affected were manufactured between July and August 2019, when the product was first released. Devices have serial numbers beginning with “229”, “259”, or “250”.
“If you purchased an OtterSpot battery within this serial number range, we recommend that you stop using it and contact our customer service department at 1-855-688-7269 to arrange a battery replacement at no charge to you,”the support page says. Otterbox. It notes that “there were no reports of injuries.”
OtterBox also said it sent emails to customers who purchased OtterSpot during the relevant time period.
