Batman 2 won’t be released for a long time

At this point, the future of Batman 2 is unclear as the film is apparently in development but has yet to receive an official green light from Warner Bros. discovery. While Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson are both involved with the project, the development status means a sequel won’t be filmed for several years. Batman 2 joins a growing number of films that are in development but it’s not known exactly where they are, including Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3, Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Superman, Zatanna, Static Shock”and “Black Canary”with Jurnee Smollett.

The terms “in development”and “green light”are often confused, but it’s important to note that “in development”means that the project is preparing to receive the green light, not that it already has. It’s clear that Matt Reeves and his team will come up with a Batman 2 project that will be approved and put into production, but at this point it doesn’t look like the project is in the pipeline. Matt Reeves has previously stated that he doesn’t want to rush production on a Batman sequel, so it’s unlikely to affect the film’s development. It’s likely that the film is still in the scripting phase and moving forward quite quickly.

For reference, The Batman, which grossed over $760 million worldwide, takes place in an alternate reality outside of the DC Extended Universe, making it a standalone film similar to Todd Phillips’ Joker (and its next sequel, Joker: Foley-a-des).
