This brilliant flowchart advises how to prepare your iOS 14, 15 or 16 device for jailbreak.

So you’ve heard about the upcoming Cheyote jailbreak from the Odyssey Team for iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1, but now you’re wondering what to do with those devices that you still have iOS or iPadOS 14 installed on, or, maybe they’re running a newer version of iOS or iPadOS 15, or even a beta version of iOS or iPadOS 16 for that matter. What to do next?

While the golden rule that we rigorously repeat here at iDownloadBlog is that would-be hackers keep their devices on the lowest firmware whenever possible for the sake of jailbreak rights, the only time we can break this rule is when we know that jailbreak release and newer firmware will be supported.

Since there is a lot of confusion about what options would-be hackers have based on what firmware they are using, it seems like a good time to reiterate the helpful flowchart posted on Twitter this evening by Havoc repository account manager @aaronp613 . Here is a more detailed look at this block diagram:

Depending on which version of iOS or iPadOS you are currently using, certain steps may be required to maintain or improve jailbreak eligibility. Here’s the gist of things:

  • Unless you’ve jailbroken iOS or iPadOS 14.8.1 or earlier, we recommend staying where you are. On the other hand, the Odyssey team will consider adding support for iOS and iPadOS 15.2-15.4.1 in the future, but this is not a promise or a guarantee. You have the option to use the DelayOTA update method to get iOS or iPadOS 15.4.1 before August 13th if you want to make this game , but you do so at your own risk and forfeit the right to jailbreak if the jailbreak is for iOS and iPadOS 14.8. 1 and below comes out.
  • If you have jailbroken on iOS or iPadOS 14.8.1 or earlier and have an A13 or later device, your next steps depend on whether you saved the iOS or iPadOS 15.4-15.4.1 blobs or not. If you have done this, then you can use futurerestore if a jailbreak is released for these firmware versions. If you haven’t saved the blobs, you can use the DelayOTA method to get iOS or iPadOS 15.4.1 before August 13 if you want to make this game, but there’s no guarantee you’ll see an iOS or iPadOS jailbreak . 15.4.1.
  • If you’ve jailbroken on iOS or iPadOS 14.8.1 or earlier and don’t have an A13 or later device, your next steps depend on whether you saved the iOS or iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 blobs or not. 15.4.1.
  • If you are using iOS or iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1, regardless of device type, you should stay put and do nothing until the Cheyote jailbreak starts.
  • If you’re using iOS or iPadOS 15.2-15.4, regardless of device type, we recommend that you stay put. On the other hand, the Odyssey team will consider adding support for iOS and iPadOS 15.2-15.4.1 in the future, but this is not a promise or a guarantee. You have the option to use the DelayOTA update method to get iOS or iPadOS 15.4.1 before August 13th if you want to make this game , but you do so at your own risk and lose your jailbreak eligibility if iOS and iPadOS 15.2 jailbreak -15.4 out.
  • If you’re using iOS or iPadOS 15.5-16.x, regardless of device type, we recommend you keep or upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 15.5 as soon as possible. You can upgrade from iOS or iPadOS 16 beta to iOS or iPadOS 15.5. at the time of this writing. There is no news yet that someone is working on a jailbreak for iOS or iPadOS 15.5, but the likelihood of one being released for this firmware is higher than for iOS or iPadOS 16.x.

The block diagram is correct in most cases; however, we advise our readers to decide for themselves whether losing the current jailbreak or gambling with the right to jailbreak in the future is worth it. Currently, the only definite jailbreak release will be the iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 version, but it’s worth noting that security researcher Linus Henze plans to release a Fugu15 demo in October with support for iOS and iPadOS 15.4.1. No one knows yet if Henze plans to release it publicly.
